Projects: South Texas Project 3&4 Proven Performance of the STP Team
STP Nuclear Operating Company operates two of the nation's largest nuclear units in Matagorda County and will operate the two new ABWR units (units 3&4). The site was originally designed for four units and has the land, water, and transmission infrastructure to accommodate units 3&4. For six consecutive years (2004-2009), STP led all two-unit nuclear facilities in the country in production
Last year, STP's unit 2 produced 11.86 million megawatt-hours, putting it second among the 104 reactors nationwide and ranking it fourth globally. STP's unit 1 generated 10.57 million megawatt-hours, which put it ninth nationally and 20th worldwide
STP achieved the lowest production cost among U.S. nuclear power plants in 2006
STP unit 1 led the world in production in 2007
Power Engineering magazine presented a “2007 Project of The Year” Award to STPNOC for the Best Nuclear Project worldwide, for excellence in replacing the low pressure turbines in both existing STP units
STP received the highest Institute of Nuclear Power Operation (INPO) rating of Excellent in 2006 and 2008
STP received seven Top Industry Practice awards from the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) and, in 2008, received its third “Best of the Best Award” (NEI’s highest award), the only plant to have received three such awards
STP completed its fifth consecutive, continuous breaker-to-breaker unit production run in 2009, setting a record for the nuclear power industry’s 50-year history
STP achieved a Total Safety Industrial Accident rate of zero in 2009, and has operated more than two years without a restricted-duty or lost-time injury among its approximately 1,200 employees
