NINA Owners NRG (88%)
NRG Energy is the majority owner of NINA, holding an 88% interest. NRG Energy is among the largest independent power producers in the U. S. with a proven track record of developing, constructing and operating power generation facilities. Within the U.S., NRG is the 2nd largest unregulated generation company by capacity. NRG has one of the most diversified power generation portfolios in terms of geography, fuel-type and dispatch levels. NRG’s principal domestic power plants consist of a diversified mix of natural gas, coal, oil-fueled and nuclear facilities.
Toshiba (12%)
Toshiba, the leading supplier of nuclear power plants and nuclear technology in Japan, holds the remaining 12% interest in NINA and will serve as prime contractor. Toshiba has committed to a project-finance ready engineering, procurement and construction (“EPC”) contract for the Project. Toshiba has extensive ABWR and BWR construction experience, having worked on three ABWR projects in Japan with two as prime contractor, as well as 22 BWR projects with 17 as prime contractor. Toshiba has built nuclear reactors continuously since the mid-1960s, and has built more BWRs in the last twenty years than any other vendor.
STP Operator South Texas Project Operating Company (STPNOC)
STPNOC operates the existing two units at the STP site and is expected to operate units 3&4 upon completion. The individuals on the STPNOC team have an extensive history of nuclear construction experience, as owners, constructors, as well as top decile operators. STPNOC’s safety, operational, and financial results in managing STP has established it as an industry leader in unit performance. In the last three years, STP has achieved the lowest fuel cost of all nuclear power plants in the U.S.; unit 1 has led all reactors nationwide in electricity production; and the plant has twice won the U.S. nuclear industry's highest honor, the Best of The Best Trophy.
STP 3&4 Partner
Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) TEPCO, one of the largest nuclear power plant operators in the world announced on May 10, its plans to join NINA in the development of the two new nuclear units at the South Texas Project (STP). TEPCO will hold a 10% share of NINA Investments Holdings’ interest in the STP expansion, STP units 3&4, once a conditional commitment for U.S. Department of Energy loan guarantee is secured for the project with an option to buy an additional 10% share of the company. TEPCO has already been a technical consultant STP development providing the benefit of its experience with Advanced Boiling Water Reactors (ABWR). TEPCO which has brought two advanced technology nuclear units online, on time and on budget, literally wrote the book on training the workforce for Advanced Boiler Water Reactor technology and will support the essential task of training the highly skilled workforce which will build and operate STP 3&4.
CPS
CPS Energy is a Texas municipal utility owned by the City of San Antonio. CPS is the largest municipally owned energy company in the U.S., providing both gas and electricity. CPS serves approximately 680,000 electric customers and approximately 319,000 natural gas customers in and around the seventh largest city in the U.S. CPS owns a 40% interest in STP 1&2 and is also a partner in STP 3&4.
The Shaw Group (Part of EPC Consortium)
Shaw is a leading global provider of engineering, construction, technology, fabrication, remediation and support services for clients in the energy, chemicals, environmental, infrastructure and emergency response industries. In addition to being part of the EPC consortium, Shaw is providing a $100 million credit facility to NINA to assist in financing the South Texas Project. The credit facility will convert to equity in NINA upon the satisfaction of certain conditions including the project receiving full notice to proceed, which is expected in mid-2012. Shaw also recently announced an expanded global strategic partnership with Toshiba to provide engineering, procurement and construction services for new Toshiba Advanced Boiling Water Reactor (ABWR) nuclear power plants worldwide, except Japan and Vietnam.
Sargent and Lundy (Sub)
Sargent & Lundy, a U.S. subcontractor for Toshiba, will provide engineering support. For more than 115 years, S&L has provided comprehensive consulting, engineering, design, and analysis for electric power generation and power delivery projects worldwide. S&L has a large, highly experienced and diversified staff solely dedicated to the energy business. Nuclear power has been a primary focus of their business since 1954. Through the years, S&L has been continuously involved in nuclear power, designing successive generations of new stations and supporting operating plants on an on-going basis. S&L has been authorized to design more than 30 new nuclear units, approximating 25,000 MW. S&L’s nuclear new generation experience includes completion of 12 BWR, 16 PWR, one high-temperature gas-cooled reactor, and one liquid sodium reactor. Recent experience includes extensive engineering, design, analysis, and project services for PWR, BWR, and Atomic Energy of Canada Limited nuclear power station owners.
Westinghouse
Westinghouse, a subsidiary of Toshiba, will provide licensing support. Westinghouse offers a wide range of nuclear plant products and services to utilities throughout the world, including fuel, engineering services, maintenance support, instrumentation and control systems, and advanced nuclear power plant designs. With its headquarters in Pittsburgh, PA, Westinghouse has operations in 12 states and in 15 countries around the world with over 10,000 employees.
Kajima Corporation
Kajima Corporation (Kajima), a Japan-based constructor, participated in the construction of all Japanese ABWR projects, and will provide construction oversight to Fluor on the Project. Kajima was founded in 1840 and has grown to become an industry leader in the field of construction. Headquartered in Tokyo, Kajima maintains a workforce of over 9,200 employees located at its 13 domestic branch offices and numerous sales/project offices throughout Japan.
IHI Corporation
IHI Corporation (IHI), Toshiba’s manufacturing partner, is the leading manufacturer of BWR/ABWR Reactor Pressure Vessels (RPV). It manufactured two of the four ABWR RPV’s currently in operation. IHI is also a leader in engineering, fabrication, and field installation of nuclear plant components, such as the containment vessel and other critical components.
